NUCLEAR APPLICATION

PLASTICS FOR A SAFE AND RELIABLE ENERGY SUPPLY

In 2017, our materials received approval for use in nuclear areas. For this purpose, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) of the SKOLKOVO Foundation tested our rods for nuclear applications. Three different modification types of our PLASTMASS™ plastic were subjected to intensive tests. In addition, our PLASTMASS™ plastic rods have been tested for use in packaging containers. Our materials have successfully passed the extensive tests with different radiation modes. Our PLASTMASS™ plastics are therefore approved for use in nuclear applications. Our plastics are manufactured under high quality standards in our factory in Russia.

  • PLASTMASS™ ENGINEERING PLASTICS

    PROBLEM

     

    • When processing uranium with uranium hexafluoride, sealing rings made of fluoropolymers with a limited lifespan are used for shielding. The material is continuously exposed to ionizing radiation, which accelerates its decay.


    SOLUTION

     

    • Our radiation-resistant high-performance plastics, which are used as seals for flange connections of containers, are suitable as a solution to this problem. Due to the longer lifespan of our plastics under permanent ionizing radiation, the physical and mechanical properties of seals are not impaired in the long term.

  • PLASTMASS™ PLASTICS FOR SHIELDING SEALS

    • Increased risks during transportation

    • Leaks can cause enormous problems

    • High maintenance costs (additives and regular monitoring of the liquid are necessary)

    • Need for expensive sealing of the containers
