Forms of samples of radiation-resistant composites tested in the Laboratory of Neutron Physics of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR)At the end of 2017, rods with a diameter of 30 mm of three different modifications of materials of the ZEDEX series and, additionally, rods with a diameter of 20 mm for the manufacture of packaging containers from other modifications of the ZEDEX series were purchased from the company IC “Plastmass Group”, a resident of the Skolkovo JINR Foundation. Shipping and packing containers were machined from the resulting rods. The materials successfully passed the tests, withstood the modes of irradiation and received approval for use as consumables when working in neutron diffraction conditions.
A promising direction for the use of anti-friction composites of our production in the processing of uranium ores.
A number of processes involving uranium hexafluoride are currently used in the processing of uranium. During its work, fluoroplastic composites with limited service life and weak physicomechanical properties are used for sealing under long-term exposure to ionizing radiation.
The possibility of testing our radiation-resistant antifriction materials as seals for flanged connections of containers with uranium hexafluoride under conditions of constant exposure to ionizing radiation is being considered. The use of our materials will allow to increase the service life of parts in the conditions of radioactive exposure without a significant weakening of the physical and mechanical properties.
